Work Exerience:

1988-00

Founder and Managing Partner
MW Productions

MW Productions created and produced conferences and trade shows for the call centre industry. Starting in 1988, before the term ‘call centre’ was even defined, the company contributed to the building of the industry in Canada and internationally. The highly focused events attracted hundreds of vendors and thousands of top call centre executives from across North America and around the world. The company’s events included:

  • TelEvolution : a trade show and conference which attracted thousands of industry representatives in Toronto. To meet regional demand it also ran in the Maritimes, Vancouver and Ottawa.
  • The International Call Center Summit: a high level conference and networking forum which ran in San Francisco and Washington in alternating years. It was launched in 1994 and attracted sponsors from eight countries and delegates from over 25 countries.

While I was involved in all aspects of the company, my primary responsibility at MW Productions was to successfully attract the right people to these very targeted events through marketing campaigns that included:

  • print ads
  • special advertising sections in
    • Canadian Business
    • Financial Post
    • BusinessWeek
    • Sales and Marketing Management Magazine
  • direct mail
  • web communications
  • publishing a print journal
  • publishing an online journal
  • outbound telemarketing campaigns

Due to its international reputation, MW Productions was also contracted to design and implement the Call Centre Congress in Sidney by Optus Australia.

In 1997 an American company purchased TelEvolution as part of its strategy to consolidate an international network of call centre events. The International Call Centre Summit was subsequently sold to a Canadian company in 2000.

Being responsible for this company required excellent oral and written communication skills, superior strategic and critical thinking ability and a talent for attending to details while keeping the larger picture in view. I was personally responsible for all aspects of the company including the overall business plan, budgets, event design and development, speaker recruitment and liaising, sponsorship sales, creation of marketing materials and articles for the journals, production of marketing materials, logistics coordination and finance.
